So I just looked up the Nokia E72 on the Nokia website and noticed that it is missing a few things. First off it won’t have included in the packaging a wrist strap or pouch like the E71 had. It’s not a huge thing but come on, this is supposed to be a step up from the E71. I know I know
Second thing is that it is apparently coming in 3 versions, Euro, US and a third I believe is APAC. What’s missing is the 3rd band on all the handsets. They are all 4band GSM but only 2band 3G according to Nokia Europs Spec page. Your options are
- E72-1 Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 900/2100 HSDPA
- E72-2 Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 850/1900 HSDPA
- E72-3 Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 850/2100 HSDPA
Now I was under the impression this handset was going to be tri-band 3G. Am I reading this wrong or or does the HSDPA count as a band? If so what wave length is it? I’m just trying to figure out which model to get.
Alert: This just in: I was told my a Nokia employee that we will not see a US/NAM version of the E72 released anytime soon. I am extremely disappointed about that and don’t really know what to think. I’m now perplexed what to do and what model to get.
I’m disappointed as well. My Blackberry Curve is dying. I’ve been limping it along for a while now. Some things since our move pushed me back in the Nokia direction of thinking. I absolutely don’t need a Blackberry Bold or an iPhone. They won’t even serve me well here as there is no 3G.
I keep hoping Nokia will deliver something to bring me back firmly in support, but the best phone they’ve ever made for me is still the N95. It’s flawed and has serious battery life issues. For my use, I’ll have to start every day with 3 charged batteries, which is absurdity for a mobile. But it’s what I’d have to carry to get through the day most of the time.
The Blackberry Curve 8900 is the closest to what I need, but I’d love the better camera that the n95 delivers.
It’s an unsolvable problem that will most likely continue to be remedied by RIM rather than any other player in the space.
Nokia continues to disappoint customers. They let us down and think they’re winning, but the influencers in the handheld space almost universally lean away from Nokia at this point. Maybe they’re moving back to tires and galoshes after all.

I’m not at all disappointed with the hardware. I just got the feeling that the E72 was going to be a step up from E71 and I just figured it would include the very popular case and wrist band.
From my previous understanding Nokia will release a US version and honestly I believe it will be coming sooner then later. It’s only a guess but I truly think Nokia is starting to put some effort into the States. Plus the E71 was so popular they would be missing out on a whole group of users here who demand US 3G.
I’m working on finding out if the Euro version has 3G that will work in the States.
Honored you’re reading my blog, thanks,
Jeb
Posted by Jeb Brilliant | August 19, 2009, 4:56 pmOk Pat I know it’s petty but I don’t want to take my Samsung wrist strap off my E71 to put on the E72.
I’m enormously jealous that you are using the E72 already, now that we know you like it my biggest question is does the 3G work in the States? Have you even been to the US since you got it? Any idea what 3G bands it can use?
Really honored you and Ken took the time to read my blog post, thanks,
Jeb
Posted by Jeb Brilliant | August 19, 2009, 5:03 pmDid a lot of research on current models, upcoming models of all brands. I need mail, social networking, web and camera in that order.
I found it, i need a blackberry curve 8900. That’s it. So more drooling over e72 for me now

Don’t fall for Joe’s words. Listed there is a NAM 3G (850/1900MHz) variant. Joe only said that they had not officially announced a U.S. version. The NAM variant can also be sold in Canada and South America. Just pick one up unlocked (it’s not like AT&T’s going to carry it, anyways) and you’re good to go.
Posted by Ricky Cadden | August 20, 2009, 6:09 amOn Nokia’s website for the German market (nokia.de), the E72 is listed with a pouch and wrist strap.
Posted by jke | August 23, 2009, 4:38 pmHi jke,
Thanks for letting me know about this. I will check back on the general European site that I usually visit to see if it has changed. Maybe I should get a German E72 for the pouch and wrist strap.
Thank you for reading taking your time to comment on my blog,
Jeb
Posted by Jeb Brilliant | August 23, 2009, 4:46 pmJeb,
The Indian version would come with a leather pouch similar to E71.
Can’t really wait for this beauty to land in my hands!

I sure hope the US or Euro version comes with a pouch and a wrist strap.
Thanks for reading.

Anyone will miss N-Gage? I have almost 20 games on my N82 and really missed when used E71 for 3-4 months. Well otherwise E71 is truly fantastic, E72 will be even better.
But I am still waiting for N82 successor.
Posted by suyog | October 25, 2009, 2:34 pmI’m still really looking forward to the E72 but now think I wouldn’t mind getting an N900 as a laptop replacement when traveling and on the couch.
