Alright, I’m sick and tired of the address book standards we have now. It’s utterly ridiculous that I can’t sync across multiple platforms specifically Google Contacts which includes Gmail and Google Voice 2 mobile numbers for the same contact. Even worse why in the world can’t I have 2 people in the same contact and easily notate what #rs are for each of them. I mean seriously what married couple does not have 2 mobile phones? I sick and tired of having to remember which # goes to who when it comes to my coupled/married friends and family. How the heck am I supposed to remember which mobile number is which when I want to call my cousin James, he and his wife both have mobile #rs and in my mind they are 1 unit which means 1 contact card. So what am I supposed to do? My friend Ricky says I should just have different contact card for my parents…. Really? No way Ricky, I’m not saying you’re wrong but I should not need to be this inconvenienced as different cards. I mean it’s 2009 and I know we don’t have flying cars yet but couldn’t we have a single contact card for a couple with multiple mobile numbers and have it sync from phone to Apple Address Book to Google Contacts?
I nominate Nokia to lead the way now and start to change the industry standards for address books/contact cards. I don’t see Microsoft or Motorola or any of the other big names doing this so Nokia it’s up to you. I’m counting on you to take the lead like you’ve done in so many other cases. Who do I need to email to get this rolling, I’ll be the squeaky wheel if necessary.
Electronic address books have been around long enough for the leaders to get it perfect not just right.
Contacts is one of the most important aspects of a phone for me. I started organizing my contacts when using a Palm Vx. Though Palm OS had many faults, it’s PIM suite was very strong and it is a shame that something so basic is not fully implemented in the high end phones of today. In particular, categorizing contacts seems to be hit or miss on smartphone platforms and the services with which they synchronize.
Nokia has totally dropped the ball on this, not providing for a basic feature such as synchronizing category information outside of the PC Suite software.
Check out this thread and notice for how many YEARS people have been requesting this feature:

I couldn’t agree more. I’m like you, I’ve been using PIM since my old Palm IIIxe days. I just don’t understand how Nokia and the others (it’s not Nokia alone) have not updated standards and features of address books.
Thanks for reading and for your comments,
