hello, i have the same problem, not only with the d-pad down key but it has spread through the other d-pad directions… i just updated my phone’s firmware and i hope it solves this annoying problem…
Posted by ANeves | March 30, 2010, 3:36 amI have the same issues. At first it was erratic, then the “center” and the “up” keys finally failed. The rest of the d-pad works fine (left, right, down). I have to use the slide out keyboard “enter” key in order to replicate the center d-pad function. It makes the phone difficult to use. It has nothing to do with direction per se, since when I slide out the keyboard I can go up just fine since “up” in landscape uses “right” in portrait. So it looks like a hardware problem, will try to open it up and see if it is an obvious tear in the internal flex cable. Now need to get the right size torx screwdrivers.
